    Description

I am a space enthusiast and worked as an aerospace engineer for NASA for 37 years and am selling some items in my collection.
Offered for sale here is a launch photo of the
    Deep Space 1 (DS1) Mission.
The photo is 8 x 10 inches in size and is in very good condition.
Also included are mission decals for both DS1 and SEDSAT, a student-built secondary payload, and a lapel pin.
The DS1 decal is somewhat rare because it includes an image of Mars on the decal denoting a planned flyby of Mars.
However, a launch delay cancelled the Mars flyby and the mission logo was re-designed without the Mars image.
The new logo design is on the lapel pin.
The Boeing decal is 4 ½ x 6 inches, the two round decals are 4 inches in diameter, and the lapel pin is 1 inch in diameter.
DS1 was the first mission in NASA’s New Millennium Program to test new technologies on spacecraft.
Originally designed to test a dozen new technologies including the use of an ion engine for spacecraft propulsion, Deep Space 1 far outstripped its primary mission goals by also successfully flying by the asteroid 9969 Braille and comet Borrelly.
DS1 was launched on October 24, 1998, on a Boeing Delta II 7326 launch vehicle from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.
