Description
Up for auction is an antique early to mid 19th century solid brass hand made strainer or colander or sieve recently found at auction in Lancaster County PA. It is found in good used condition. Appears to be handmade as holes are different sizes and not aligned. Probably went over a mixing bowl or pan. Condition issues include spotting, finish losses, staining, discoloration, minor cracks along holes, bends, dents, especially along edges. Sides folded over. Well made in the day, large hanger hole for display when not in use, piece of twine currently in hole. overall approx 5" across in straining area. Unsigned unmarked. Quality piece for straining jams etc. Could be earlier, 18th century. Very primitive. Still quite useable after cleaning.Great decor for kitchen or hearth. Amazingly lightweight, well crafted by an expert in its day.
Best of luck in bidding.
